MAC: Studio Fix Fluid.

Holaaaa, ya estoy aquí de nuevo para traeros otra de mis entradas dedicadas a productos que no son lo ultimo de lo ultimo. Como sabéis, no suelo hacer mis reviews basándome en los productos que están de moda en el momento sino en los productos que voy probando yo personalmente,  porque creo que es la manera más honesta de hablar de un producto.

Hello back, I´m here again to offer you one of my posts dedicated to products that are not on top of the wave right now. As you know, I don´t tend to make my reviews basing them on what´s new or what´s trendy at the moment but based on products that I have personally tried because, in my opinion that´s the most honest way to talk of a product.

Como seguramente ya sabréis, la Studio Fix fluid es una de las bases estrella de Mac, y en mi opinión, con toda la razón del mundo. Mi história con esta base ha sido una historia de amor-odio. Cuando la compré lo hice por un impulso llevada por la influencia de algunas youtubers y bloggers. Parecía que si no tenías esta base no tenías ni idea de maquillaje. Así que me lancé y la compré sin pensarlo. Mi piel es grasa, y en la zona de la frente muy grasa así que esta base es ideal para ello. Pero cual es mi sorpresa cuando ví que a mí no me iba nada bien, que me controlaba los brillos de la misma manera que cualquier otra base y no noté nada especial. La notaba demasiado pesada y la empecé a odiar, así que la dejé muerta de risa en un cajón durante mucho tiempo.

As you already know, Studio Fix Fluid is one of Mac´s best sellers, and in my opinion, it is well deserved. My story with this foundation has been one of those love-hate stories. When I first bought it I did it impulsively, guided by the influence of some youtubers and bloggers. It seemed that if you didn´t have this foundation you were out of the flow, that you had no idea of make-up. So I let myself go with the flow and bought it . My skin is oily, very oily in the forehead so this foundation is perfect. But the surprise was when I saw that it didn´t work that well on me, that it controlled oil the same way than any other foundation and I didn´t feel anything special. I felt it was too heavy and I started to hate it so I abandoned it in the drawer for a long time.

Pasado un tiempo decidí darle otra oportunidad. Lo primero que hice fue cambiar mi rutina de limpieza facial usando cremas hidratantes cuyo principal ingrediente fuera el agua y como mi piel se estaba «normalizando» pues lo volví a intentar. También cambié mi forma de aplicarla. Esta base, al ser tan cubriente debemos trabajarla mucho para conseguir un resultado más pulido. Es una base bastante elástica, es decir, que con poca cantidad y bien trabajada tienes para cubrir bien toda la cara sin necesidad de recargar la piel de producto. Tambien influye mucho el tipo de herramienta que utilicemos, no se obtiene el mismo resultado con una brocha tipo F80 de Sigma que con una brocha de maquillaje tipo lengua de gato, con una brocha tipo mofeta o con una esponjita.

After some time I decided to give it another chance. The first thing I did was to change my facial cleansing routine using  moisturizers whose main ingredient was water and since my skin was «normalizing» I tried this foundation again. I also changed my way of applying it. Since this foundation has so much coverage we have to work with it very much in order to get a more polished result. This foundation is quite elastic, that means, that with very little quantity and well blended you have enough to cover well all the face with no need to overdo the skin with too much product. It also depends a lot on the type of tool we use, we don´t obtain the same result using a brush like Sigma´s F80, than using a foundation brush, a stippling brush or a sponge.

A veces nos obsesionamos con la cobertura y no prestamos demasiada atención al acabado (salvo en casos de imperfecciones importantes como vitíligo, cicatrices,cloasma…etc). En mi caso, yo prefiero un buen acabado a una buena cobertura para el día. ¿Por qué?, pues porque lo que busco es dar a la piel un aspecto saludable, de «buena cara» y para ello no se necesita saturar la piel a base de productos. Yo tengo pecas y no me importa que se vean debajo de la base, eso es algo que no llama nada la atención cuando el acabado nos proporciona un aspecto natural y saludable.

We sometimes obsess with coverage and we don´t pay too much attention to the final result ( except in cases with severe imperfections like vitiligo, scars, chloasma … etc). In my case, I prefer a good finishing touch instead of good coverage during the day. Why?, because what I look for is to give the skin a healthy look, a good appearance and for that we don´t need to overdo our face with a lot of products. I have some freckles on my face and I don´t mind them being noticeable under my foundation, that is something unnoticeable when the finishing touch provides a healthy and natural look to our face. 

Si lo que voy a hacer es un maquillaje de noche o de fiesta pues en ese caso sí me ocupo más de proporcionar una buena cobertura usando por ejemplo esponjitas de maquillaje y aplicando la base a toquecitos. Y esta base es ideal para eso. Suelo aplicar un primer en las zonas más conflictivas para controlar el exceso de sebo. Yo utilizo el Sebium Pore Refiner de Bioderma, del que podéis ver la review que hice aquí . El resultado es muy bueno y cambia el aspecto totalmente.

If what I want is a make-up for the night or a party make-up then in that case I do pay more attention to providing a good coverage to my skin by using a sponge and applying the foundation with little touches on it. And this foundation is perfect for that. I usually apply a primer on the problematic areas in order to control the sebium excess. I use Bioderma´s Sebim Pore Refiner, you can see the review I did about it here . The final result is pretty good and it changes  my appearance completely.

El tono de la base de la foto es NW25 que es el que uso cuando me estoy empezando a poner morena o cuando ya se ha terminado el verano y estoy perdiendo el bronceado. Ahora en el invierno mi tono es el NW20. La base tiene un factor de protección solar del 15 y no fotografía mal, algo que por norma general no suele pasar con las bases que llevan spf.

The shade of the foundation in the picture is NW25 which is the one I use when I´m starting to tan or when the summer is over and my tan is disappearing. Now during the winter my shade is NW20. This foundation has an SPF of 15 and it doesn´t look bad in photographs, something that normally doesn´t happen with foundations that have SPF factor.

La base viene sin dosificador y hay que comprarlo aparte, cosa que me parece absurda puesto que dudo que alguien quiera tener esta base sin él ya que se desperdiciaría mucha cantidad. Con una o dos dosis tenemos cantidad más que de sobra para maquillarnos.

This foundation comes without a dispenser and you have to buy it on your own, something that I find absurd since I doubt that somebody wants to have this foundation without it because we would waste too much product. With one or two doses we have enough to do our whole face.

La base es de acabado mate por lo que hay que tener cuidado a la hora de sellarla, no es conveniente que se nos vaya la mano con los polvos translúcidos porque podemos dar un aspecto muy acartonado y polvoriento.  Yo no suelo sellar toda la cara, sólo pongo polvos en la zona T y poca cantidad y me aguanta muy bien.

Otra de las cosas que se suelen destacar de esta base de maquillaje es su olor. Es un poquito fuerte, a mí personalmente no me molesta pero si eres demasiado sensible con ese tema pues me temo que ésta no es tu base.

It has a matte finish so you have to be extra careful when you set it, you shouldn´t apply too much powder because you might give your face a powdery appearance. I don´t tend to set all the face, I only apply some powder on the T zone and I try to apply very little quantity and it lasts quite long.

Another thing that people tend to highligh on this foundation is its smell. It is a bit intense, I don´t really care about it but if you are too sensitive with all that stuff then this is not your foundation.

Aquí os dejo un par de swatches para que veáis el color y la cobertura. No se aprecia tan bien como en la cara pero sirve para hacernos una idea. Sé que la entrada ha sido larga pero he querido hacerlo así con idea de proporcionar la mayor cantidad de información posible. Espero no haberme olvidado de nada.
